Mary Ingles Slept Here

Updated: Mar 23

In 1755, Mary Draper Ingles was taken from her home in Drapers Meadow, Virginia and forced to travel more than 500 miles to a place in present day Ohio. After she escaped from captivity, she famously "followed the river" back to her home. The perilous journey took her through what is now the New River Gorge National Park.

In November, New River Eco Tours will lead a special group tour and retrace the footsteps of Mary Ingles along the Stone Cliff Trail. You can find out more and book your reservation here.
